NFL Week 17 picks, predictions: Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants
Eli Manning jogged off the field at MetLife Stadium with a football in his hand and a hand waved to the crowd last December in what could have been his final game with the Giants.
The Giants played to win in a meaningless season finale and beat the Redskins.
One year later, they will take the same approach behind the same starting quarterback in Sunday’s game against the Cowboys — who are locked in as the No. 4 seed in the NFC playoffs — because coach Pat Shurmur believes in year-to-year momentum.
The Giants made massive structural changes in the offseason and started 1-7 in 2018. There won’t be massive changes in 2018, but the idea of momentum carrying over nine months through free agency, the draft, training camp and a minimum of 10-15 new players seems naive, no?
“Unless you just change everybody out, what about the other 45 guys? What about the coaches that are still here?” Shurmur said.
“The systems are in place. You do what you can to improve the systems, and you do what you can to improve the players. Anything you do more than once, you improve, and so if you believe experience matters, that’s why everything carries over. I think it’s all connected.”

The Cowboys have won the NFC East for the third time in five years, while the Giants are playing out the string in their sixth season without a playoff berth in the last seven, and second in a row. The Giants are just 8-23 over the past two seasons, and another loss to close out another lost season sets the stage for a pivotal offseason.
The pick: Cowboys 23, Giants 3

The Cowboys don’t have much motivation to try very hard in Week 17 considering they already clinched the NFC East, so it’d be surprising if the starters played very much. If anything, they can play a different sort of spoiler: That is, for the Giants’ draft pick. New York winning would worsen their draft position and reduce the chance of them drafting a potential franchise quarterback in the upcoming draft.
The pick: Giants 21, Cowboys 10

The Cowboys have already clinched the NFC East, so the pressure is off this week. But the Giants could be playing for a little something extra, given the possibility this is Eli Manning’s final game for the franchise.
The pick: Giants 24, Cowboys 21

The Giants are headed toward an offseason with a lot of unknowns and winning this game won’t change a thing. The Cowboys have locked up their playoff spot, so going all-in here would be somewhat misguided. The Giants may pull off the upset with nothing on the line.
The pick: Giants 17, Cowboys 13

The NFC East belongs to the Cowboys for the third time in five years. The Giants — with three wins last year and five so far this year — are trying to avoid their worst two-season stretch (excluding the 1982 strike year) since 1976-77 (3-11, 5-9). Eli Manning’s final home game?
The pick: Cowboys 24, Giants 10

The Giants can draft anywhere between a range of No. 4 and No. 12 in the first round based on what happens around the NFL this weekend. That’s what made Week 16 a win-win in a loss to the Colts: The effort was there, Eli Manning played well for most of the game and they still worsened their draft position. More of the same in Week 17?
The pick: Giants 21, Cowboys 14

The line — Giants favored by seven points — doesn’t lie here. Dallas is locked into the No. 4 seed, and won’t risk injury to its most important players.
The pick: Giants 28, Cowboys 17

The Cowboys are locked into the fourth seed, so they don’t need this game. The Giants are playing out the string, but they’ve played well the past six weeks. I think that will show up here as they beat a Dallas team focused on next week.
The pick: Giants 27, Cowboys 20
Mike Florio, Pro Football Talk
The Cowboys will surely rest and protect their key players, which opens the door for the Giants to end the season on a high note.
The pick: Giants 27, Cowboys 17.
